Recreation Aid- Fitness

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Incumbent is responsible for performing the following control counter duties:  Check for proper identification, issue athletic gear such as towels, equipment and locker keys and ensure customers sign in/sign out.   Operate a cash register, ring up sales, and summarize the daily activity reports (DARS).  Wash, dry and fold athletic towels.  Control resale inventory going in and out during shift.  Register patrons with daily group exercise programming, which entails issuing passes, recording customer sign ups and reservations.    Inform, assist and accept registrations from MWR customers concerning all intramural and aquatic program information.  Enforce posted gym rules, answer the telephone, and provide assistance to customers in regard to MWR programs and facilities.  Professional appearance and etiquette are required of this highly visible and service oriented position.  This includes grooming and uniform requirements. Performs as necessary, specific housekeeping tasks and recording completion in log books.  These housekeeping tasks may include, but are not limited, to sweeping, vacuuming, mirror cleaning, picking up paper and bottles, returning exercise equipment, dusting weight lifting machines, clearing and polishing drinking fountains, emptying trash cans, returning equipment to storage areas.  Occasional light custodial work may be required including vacuuming, wiping down restroom counters and surfaces, picking up trash, stocking paper supplies, making copies of needed documents (sign in sheets, inventory sheets, daily log sheets, etc.).  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS OR COMPETENCIES: Must have some general business related experience in dealing with basic customer service, Federal Prison Regulations pertaining to the use of inmates and HAZMAT training. Must possess a valid CPR card. Must have experience in instructing patrons in a sports environment. Must have the ability to maintain records. Must have the ability to deal effectively with inmates and co-workers. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Have the ability to render decision and react responsible to various problems and/or situations that may arise, based on knowledge of current and past policies and precedents relating to an MWR activity/program.

Claiming Employment Preference Guidelines:

 

  1. Reemployment Priority List (RPL): Qualifying separated employees shall have a priority placement in the NAF activity from which they were separated as a result of a Business Based Action (BBA), when the position has substantially the same duties as the position from which they were separated and it is not a higher grade or employment category, provided the position is not being filled by an internal candidate.

     

    To claim this preference, you MUST:

    Submit a copy of your BBA Separation

    Notification indicating eligibility for RPL.

     

  2. Military Spouse Preference (MSP): Qualifying spouses eligible for MSP are spouses of an active duty military member of the U.S. Armed Forces, including members of the National Guard or Reserves on active duty. The Marriage must have occurred before the military member received official permanent change of station (PCS) orders to the installation listed above. MSP is applicable only when applying for NAF positions at the NF-03 and below and equivalent craft and trade (CT) positions.

     

    To claim this preference, you MUST:

    Submit a sponsor’s PCS orders to installation you are applying for; AND

    If you are not indicated as a spouse on the PCS orders, you MUST submit proof of marriage prior to PCS.

     

  3. Veteran’s Preference/Gold Star Veteran’s Preference: Qualifying military veterans and spouses/parents of deceased veterans shall be given employment preference over non-preference applicants if they are equally qualified. Preference applicable for positions open to external candidates.

 

To claim Veteran’s preference, you must:

Submit a copy of your DD-214 (member 4 copy): AND

Submit Completed SF15 from the Veterans Administration (VA); AND

Submit any other supporting documentation (disability, official statements, proof of service, etc.)

 

 

To claim Gold Star Veteran’s preference, you MUST:
